What Are 3rd Party Service Providers in Assisted Living?

Boost Your Resident Experience Without Boosting Your Payroll

If you're starting an assisted living business, here's something you'll love: You can offer better care without hiring more staff or spending more money.

It’s all about using 3rd party service providers. These are independent professionals who support your residents—without being on your payroll.

Let’s walk through the types of providers you can use, how to bring them in, and why it matters for your business.

Check out this video, too;

Why 3rd Party Providers Matter

These providers give you serious value:

βœ… Extra services for your residents
βœ… Covered by insurance (in many cases)
βœ… You don’t pay their salary
βœ… Makes your home more attractive to families
βœ… Great referral opportunities from providers

You’re not hiring these people—you’re partnering with them.

Types of 3rd Party Providers You Should Know

Let’s go through the key categories and how they help.

🧠 1. Mental Health Services

Many residents deal with grief, anxiety, depression, or loneliness. Offering mental health support can completely change the energy of your home.

Here’s how to do it:

  • Bring in therapists or clinical social workers to do group or one-on-one sessions.

  • Use providers who are working toward licensure. They often need counseling hours and can often provide services at a discounted rate.

  • Covered by Medicare/Medicare Advantage, so you’re not paying out of pocket.

🎯 Tip: Set up a therapy room in your home. No need for residents to travel. You control the schedule, and they get real help.

🍽️ 2. Nutritionists & Dietitians

Food is care.

  • Help with meal planning and resident-specific diets.

  • Great for residents with diabetes, high blood pressure, or other diet-related health issues.

  • Adds a professional touch that families appreciate.

πŸ› οΈ This is especially helpful if you’re not sure what to serve or need support with compliance.

🧘 3. Fitness Instructors

Yes—seniors love to move!

Bring in:

  • Yoga instructors 🧘

  • Light aerobics coaches πŸ•Ί

  • Bodyweight exercise specialists πŸ’ͺ

These services improve health, reduce falls, and increase happiness. Plus, instructors love working with seniors—it’s a fun vibe all around.

βš–οΈ 4. Elder Law Attorneys

Seniors often need help with:

  • Wills

  • Trusts

  • End-of-life planning

  • Medicaid or VA paperwork

Having a trusted attorney come into your home can create peace of mind for families. And when you refer more business to the attorneys, they may send referrals your way too. Win-win.

πŸ’° 5. Financial Advisors

Even in lower-income homes, financial help matters.

Residents may need support with:

  • Managing Social Security

  • Budgeting monthly expenses

  • Making small investment decisions

  • Transition planning

When you bring in financial advisors (especially those familiar with senior care), you’re adding another layer of support that families notice.

How to Bring These Providers Into Your Home

Here’s how to make it happen, step-by-step:

βœ… List the services your residents could benefit from
βœ… Start local—search for Medicare-covered providers or students-in-training
βœ… Reach out and ask if they make home visits
βœ… Create a quiet, private space for sessions or appointments
βœ… Introduce the services to families during tours or onboarding

These services don’t cost you anything—but they add huge value to your home.

00:01:02
post this one link on to the Facebook group and then we'll get started so um for those of you um that are new here um I like to have the newbies uh just go ahead and type in newbie down below so I can see who who's watching who's new to the channel who's new to the idea of assisted living and get a feel for that type in newbie down below if you are new um and we're going to be getting into third party service providers for assisted living today um let me get over to this let me make sure I'm

00:01:33
sharing my screen okay there we go so for those of you who don't know me my name is Brandon I own and operate um to assisted living facilities and sorry my microphone is far away hopefully this is not having issues here I'm going to connect that and make sure that it's good and get it over here by me so for those of you who don't know me my name is Brandon Guston I own two assisted living facilities um out of state I live in Utah um one of my facilities is in Colorado and the other

00:02:02
one is in Idaho um operate those two have been doing this since 2020 have secured over $1.5 million dollar in SBA funding um through that process uh operate out of state obviously and then have a masters in healthcare administration have worked in the healthcare industry for over a decade so I have a lot of experience uh kind of working through nonprofits um with uh government programs type types of things Medicare Medicaid Medicare Advantage uh and very familiar with how those those different things work um so that's a

00:02:32
little bit of my background so let's get into the topic for today um what is a thirdparty service provider a third party service provider is a partner who is going to provide some of those services that your residents are going to need um they they're going to add some extra quality of care to to your residents as well which is going to make them feel a little bit happy the other nice thing about thirdparty service providers is you don't necessarily have to pay for them they they come out of

00:03:01
residents other benefits that that they have uh so this could be doctors or Specialists or mental health providers it could be um other just like activity type things as well so there's a lot of uh different types of thirdparty providers but they are really there to add value to the residents and the more that you are able to build relationships with these third-party providers um and bring them into your facility to provide extra services to your residents the happier they're going to be and um the

00:03:30
more likely they will be to kind of learn be happy in your in your in your home um give referrals and um build the good community that you want to build inside of your home so let's talk a little bit about health care services um know when you think of healthcare services you're probably thinking about Physicians and things like that and and you're correct here um you can work with thirdparty providers um that are not a part of they're not necessarily affiliated with your assisted living

00:03:58
facility but you work with them and help provide extra services to your residents so these could be Physicians and Specialists this could be the primary care provider for your for your residents um so most of them are going to have who that person is for them some of them don't though and so you can help build some of those relationships um you can build relationships with doctors and have them come into the home as well uh which is great uh Pharmacy um so we partner with specific pharmacies that

00:04:27
interface with our EHR system so if you'd like to learn learn more about ehrs type that down below um would love to kind of give you some more information on that but EHR is an electronic Healthcare record our Pharmacy will interface with that so we can order meds there we can um have all of our notes we can see where meds are and it really benefits us a lot because of the relationship that we have with our Pharmacy um and there's also like rehabilitation services um rehab like Physical Therapy um type doctors that

00:04:58
could come in you could build those types relationships as well um and kind of have doctors that the residents then become familiar with um and they get they get familiar they know what you're talking about when you talk about a specific Pharmacy or they when you're talking about the physical therapist it's not a strange person to them they they know who this person is they know who's coming into the house and they feel comfortable with it so healthcare service providers are really good um

00:05:23
people for you to reach out to and interact with and and build relationships with uh their their going to provide some extra care uh to your residents that is beyond the care that as an assisted living provider you may not be able to um provide because you're there to do those activities of daily living that's what we're focused on in assisted living and when you need more care that's where you're going to work with and partner with these other thirdparty providers okay so that's

00:05:51
Healthcare Services let's talk about personal care services now these ones um this is a lot of what people like to see but not a lot of facilities are doing this this is building relationships with um places like beauticians and Barbers um nail salons podiatrists massage therapists these are different um types of people that can come in to the home and they could do haircuts uh they could do the nails of the ladies in in the facility um or in the home uh you can really bring these people in and add

00:06:24
some extra value um to to the home and and to the residents that live there and build up the value in the eyes of the residents and their families because they can see that you are committed to doing this um a really cool way of doing this actually um if if you're able to find these locally for you are like um barber mition schools um those that are trying to get hours for for cutting hair or for doing nails or those types of things uh getting with local tiny community colleges with or or the little

00:06:58
tiny trade schools that focus on these types of things if you can build out Partnerships with them those people need the hours so you can get them in at a low cost um you could pay for it that if you did that or uh you give it as a lowcost thing for your residents some of these also do this for free and so you're able to help those students out in getting the hours that they need and provide a service to your residents uh which which is really great same with massage therapy uh there's a lot of

00:07:27
people that they're trying to become a massage therapist and they need to get hours and they do free massages for people you could partner with those that are that are trying to do this so this is all these are all really great services that you can add and building out Partnerships with those types of educational locations that are trying to build people's um that are those that want to get those certifications or uh get into those professions you can help them out and help them Reach their goals

00:07:56
build relationships with them build relationships with their schools and and ecosystem that exists there which could lead to other referrals and things down the line you never know where those things are going to go but this is um just a great way for you to add some extra value to your residents and how you're going to get in um and and give them more reasons to want to be at your facility and be happy while they're there so those are personal care services now let's get into Mental

00:08:23
Health Services now this is this is one that I think is really important uh for for people and I think world is becoming more aware of of mental health services and what that means for people and uh frankly the the population that you're going to be dealing with an assisted living may not be as open to talking to a therapist or or those types of things but if you provide that service it can really help them um they're going through a lot of change in their lives they're going from somewhere where they

00:08:52
lived and were married and had kids and everything to a home that um you try to make it as as home homey as as you possibly can but it's still a lot of change for for your residents and they're going through a lot and so if you can provide them with these services with mental health providers psychologists psychiatrists therapists social workers bringing those people into the home to have conversations you could have group um discussions about certain things um to help mediate um certain circumstances or even just

00:09:24
one-on-one conversations um that could benefit again here you you can get into to those that are not quite licensed yet you could be looking at a clinical social worker rather than a licensed clinical social worker those individuals need hours of counseling and they can provide those services at a discounted rate um which would typically be covered by a resident's Medicare or Medicare Advantage um type of benefit so it's not something that you have to pay for out of pocket but by bringing them into the

00:09:54
house you don't have to worry about Transportation you don't have to worry about a resident leaving um you can set up a room or or a space inside of the home where the therapist could come in and meet with several residents at at at a time and help out um in in processing those things that's going to benefit the resident but it's also going to benefit the home make it feel just a little more um I don't know happy a little more energetic uh if you've ever gone to a therapy session then then you probably

00:10:22
understand this that um when you go and you're able to talk through those things you're able to process things better and you are able to build relationships with with people a lot better and the same thing would go inside of your home here so it's a great benefit if you can build those relationships and and get those types of providers into your home so that is mental health services and then some other ones that you want to be aware of that you could bring into the home other thirdparty service providers

00:10:48
that you can bring in and and add value to your residents would be nutritionists and dietitians to help out with the diet help you do some meal planning um maybe give some guidance and and evaluate diet of some of the residents who may be struggling from a Health Point uh standpoint and it's all related back to the the diet that they're having and so it can give you some guidance there so benefits you benefits the residents Fitness instruct instructors you could bring in yoga um types you know aerobics

00:11:18
um some of these light um these light types of exercises that are just body weight or just getting up and moving and it doesn't have to be a lot that can the residents love doing those types of activities and so building relationships with with them um with those with Fitness instructors is going to benefit you and fitness instructors they love to come and and do this and interact with people as well I've had great experiences with that um so that's a good one um you can get with elderly law

00:11:47
attorneys um sometimes your residents they may need to be putting things in a trust or um finishing up their will or uh potentially any other types of of things uh that that could come up and having relationships with the elderly elder law attorneys is going to benefit you could lead in could be a leading Source actually for referrals because you're building those relationships with them but it gives uh an extra benefit to your resident um and again it's not something that you're paying for it's

00:12:15
something that you are um making some connections and and can benefit you and another one is financial advisors um even like low-income places financial advisors are still going to be a huge benefit because a lot of these people they struggle um with managing their money um and so it could be doing a little bit of financial management there all the way up to maybe they have some Investments and things like that um or they want to just kind of look at how to handle their social security um handle certain life

00:12:47
situations that they're coming into um as they age and so these are all things that you want to to be aware of and and just other services that you can get out there and and provide to to people so those are the different services different types of service providers I want to thank um I can't remember who it was but we had somebody on the YouTube channel comment down below that this was something they wanted to dive into this is one of several topics that they brought in so if you have questions or

00:13:11
other things that you would like me to dive into then comment those down below uh because I can build out this content uh for you and answer some of those questions that you have and help you you know get the information that you need as you're trying to launch your Assisted Living business um now let's get over here uh while you're typing we got some time for some Q&A so if you are on here and you have some questions then go ahead and type those in the meantime I'm going to just remind you to like the
